Anti-Discrimination Legal Clinic

The aim of the Anti-discrimination legal clinic is to enhance the knowledge and broaden the experiences of the participating students with regard to legal protection against discrimination and promotion of equality. The activities of the clinic are organised on two levels: (i) training and education, and (ii) obtaining practical experience by participating in legal work in the framework of the legal clinic.

The training focuses on providing (theoretical) knowledge of discrimination law (on the national and international levels). Training is carried out on two levels. Firstly, the students attend an introductory set of lectures on legal mechanisms for the protection against discrimination. This is followed by the integration of the participants into practical work. Secondly, training is organised as seminars held throughout the year in which the participating students, assisted by the mentor / lecturer, present to each other the mentoring organisations or institutions they are working with and the specific problems they encountered during their involvement in the practical work.

Following the successful completion of the introductory (theoretical) training, the students are assigned to selected host state institutions (e.g. the Advocate of the Principle of Equality, the Human Rights Ombudsman) and NGOs (e.g. the Association Information Center Legebitra). Throughout the year, the students participate in legal work regarding protection against discrimination and promotion of equality under the guidance of external mentors, who are experts with extensive work experience in the respective field.
