NEW IMLI Ph.D. SCHOLARSHIP

The IMO International Maritime Law Institute (IMLI) will award a 3-year Ph.D. scholarship to eligible candidates who wish to conduct research in the field of the Law of the Sea. The Research, Innovation and Development Trust (RIDT) of University of Malta, which will administer the scholarship, is inviting applications from IMLI, Mediterranean Academy of Diplomatic Studies (MEDAC) and University of Malta Law graduates, and also from the University's academic staff. Preference will be given to applications focusing on climate change.

The funds have been made available by an anonymous benefactor of RIDT.

Ambassador Wilfred Kenely (CEO of RIDT) stated that, "This is indeed a noble gesture by a special individual. The University of Malta, would like to thank the anonymous donor for making this award possible, and invites affluent private individuals to follow this example as the whole Maltese society can benefit from a culture that promotes research and development as an economic tool.

Candidates are asked to submit a copy of both the applicant's degrees and the academic transcripts, together with a CV and a project proposal not exceeding 12,000 characters. Applications are to be addressed to The CEO, Research, Innovation and Development Trust, University of Malta, Valletta Campus, St. Paul's Street, Valletta, VLT1216, Malta.

RIDT was established by the University of Malta to bolster investment in research and development on a national level. As the University expands its sphere of research projects, it is increasingly becoming more reliant on patronage and sponsorships from private and corporate bodies.
