9th ALL-EUROPEAN INTERNATIONAL HUMANITARIAN AND REFUGEE LAW MOOT COURT COMPETITION
The call for applications for the 9th edition of the All-European International Humanitarian and Refugee Law Moot Court Competition, which will take place between November 19th – 22nd 2024 at the Faculty of Law of the University of Ljubljana is now open!

ABOUT THE COMPETITION: This moot court competition is based on a Case Study which is carefully prepared by the organisers in cooperation with the ICRC and UNHCR and addresses the most pertinent and topical questions relating to international humanitarian and refugee law, drawing on the current crisis situations. It is designed to encourage students to study and understand the fundamental concepts of international humanitarian and refugee law by addressing concrete legal problems and practice their legal argumentation in front of experienced judges and panel members.
The Faculty of Law of the University of Ljubljana will host the 9th edition of the All-European International Humanitarian and Refugee Law Moot Court Competition between between November 19th – 22nd 2024.
CALL FOR APPLICATIONS
All European universities are invited to apply for the 9th edition of the
All-European International Humanitarian and Refugee Law Moot Court Competition,
to take place at the Faculty of Law, University of Ljubljana (Slovenia)
on November 19th – 22nd 2024,
organised in cooperation with
the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and
the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
EARLY BIRD APPLICATION DEADLINE: JULY 31st 2024
Teams that apply on or before July 31st 2024, are also eligible to apply for financial support of the ICRC to cover the costs of accommodation during the competition. Only applications sent to ihlrefugeemoot@pf.uni-lj.si, accompanied by (1) a letter from the university, stating that it cannot cover the costs of accommodation, and (2) a statement as to why the team cannot obtain financial support for the costs of accommodation from other sources, are to be considered. All submitted documents have to be in English language. After the selection procedure teams shall be notified of the outcome in the first week of September 2024 the latest.
FINAL APPLICATION DEADLINE: SEPTEMBER 20th 2024
Who may apply? All European universities, teaching International Humanitarian and Refugee law. Each University can apply only with one team, composed of a minimum of two and a maximum of three law students (1st or 2nd Bologna level or equivalent) and a coach or academic supervisor.
How to apply? Send an email to ihlrefugeemoot@pf.uni-lj.si with the following information:
- names and surnames of student competitors and their contact details (email);
- name and surname of a coach/an academic supervisor;
- university affiliation.
The early bird application fee is 200 EUR per team. Any costs of the wire transfer are to be borne by the applicants. The regular application fee is 300 EUR per team. Refreshments will be provided by the organizers. Other costs of participation are to be borne by the teams themselves.
