Useful information about University of Ljubljana and its Faculty of Law
University of Ljubljana (Universitas Labacensis) is the oldest and largest university in Slovenia. Even though certain scholarly academies in philosophy and theology were established by Jesuitical higher education in as early as the seventeenth century, its firm beginnings as a university date back to 1810 in scope of the Écoles centrales of the French imperial administration. Ever since this form of education was disrupted by Austrian empire regaining the territorial control in 1813, there has been a quest for a national university. Unfavourable political circumstances prevented the establishment of the university until the fall of the Austrian-Hungarian Empire and establishment of the Kingdom of Slovenes, Croats and Serbs in 1918. University of Ljubljana was established in 1919 the Faculty of Law being one of its founding faculties.
University of Ljubljana has been alma mater to many prominent alumni, among others the current Judge at the Court of Justice of the EU (Marko Ilešič), former Advocate General of the CJEU (Professor Verica Trstenjak), a world-renowed philosopher (Slavoj Žižek), first lady of the United States of America (Melania Trump) and numerous Olympic medalists.
To our greatest delight, the Regional Final in Ljubljana this year will take place when the University of Ljubljana and the Faculty of Law commemorate their 100th anniversary.
