Department of Administrative Law

The Department covers the area which was taught at the University of Ljubljana since its establishment in 1919 and is therefore considered to be a classical area of teaching at the Faculty of Law. Administrative Science and Administrative Science, as the teaching area of the Department was called in the early beginnings, has transformed through time together with changes in organization of study and broader social changes in the 20th century. The rich tradition of the Department includes several distinguished professors: Pitamic, Steska, Vodopivec, Andrejka, Jurkovič, Kukman, Vavpetič, Bučar, Godec, Šturm and Jerovšek.

The area of this Department is evolving and changing more rapidly than any other legal area. One of the key features of this area  is a constant and strong interaction between public administration and its social context. Its main area of study is legal organization of public administration.  The Department offers courses during the fourt year of graduate study and postgraduate study. The basic courses are Public Administation, Administrative Law and Administrative Procedure. Besides, the Department offers many other basic and elective courses: Environmental Law (graduate study),  Introduction to Administrative Sciences and Development of Public Administation (postgraduate study). Graduate students can choose among many elective courses: Sistem of Public Administration, Administrative Institutions, Public Services, European Administrative Law. Post-graduate students are offered the following courses: Sistem of Public Administration, Public Services, Law of Civil Service, Environmental Law and Administrative Internal Affairs. Together with the Department for Constitutional Law, the Department offers additional elective course Local Government for graduate and post-graduate students.

The members of the Department are engaged in legal research work as well as legal counseling: they often participate in various working gropus preparing laws, legal opinions. Many visiting, foreign and other experts are often involved in the work of the Department.
