Several research institutes operate within the Faculty of Law in Ljubljana, each dedicated to advancing legal research in specific fields through targeted activities within their respective research groups. While the Institute for International Law and International Relations remains part of the Faculty, other institutes have evolved into legally independent entities while maintaining close ties with the Faculty.

For detailed information about each institute and its activities, please visit their respective websites.

The Institute for International Law and International Relations, led by Vasilka Sancin, has roots dating back to the pre-World War II era when it was known as the Institute for Public International Law of King Alexander I University. Over the years, it has remained at the forefront of contemporary issues in international law and relations, addressing topics relevant to both former Yugoslavia and modern Slovenia.

Since Slovenia’s independence, the Institute’s significance has grown, reflecting the increased demand for expertise in areas such as treaty analysis, human rights protection, and peaceful dispute resolution. It also manages the UN Depository Library and organizes international initiatives, including the Responsibility to Protect conference, the MUNLawS competition, and the All-European International Humanitarian and Refugee Law Moot Court Competition.
