Master’s Programme in Law

The Faculty of Law organises its studies in line with the principles of the Bologna Reform. Starting from the 2023/24 academic year, the programme is primarily offered as a single-cycle Master's degree that will gradually replace the previous two-stage law degree. However, the Faculty is still actively offering a second-level, one-year (2 semester) Master's programme in Law. The programme builds on the new first-cycle curriculum and meets the formal education requirements needed to take the State Examination in Law (Bar Exam). The Master’s program in Law is a one-year program consisting of two semesters, totalling 60 ECTS. Students can specialize by choosing one of the following modules: General Law Module, Commercial Law Module, State Law Module, and International Law Module.

Upon fulfilling all program requirements, graduates are awarded the professional title of Master of Laws. All lectures and seminars are held in Slovenian. Mastering the Slovenian language is mandatory.

Information for International Students

The University of Ljubljana publishes a call for enrolment into master’s programmes annually, typically between February and June, for the upcoming academic year. Applicants must adhere to the deadlines and instructions provided in the Call for Enrolment. International applicants with foreign higher education qualifications must have their credentials recognized before enrolling in postgraduate programs. The recognition process begins during the application stage, with detailed guidance available on the Ministry of Education, Science, and Sport’s website. Requirements vary depending on the applicant's country of origin.

International students in their first year at the University of Ljubljana may participate in the Year Plus Programme, which includes mandatory Slovenian language courses. This initiative helps students adjust to the Slovenian educational system and culture.
