Maria Victoria Inostroza

María Victoria Kristan is an MSCA-Eutopia Science and Innovation postdoctoral Fellow at the Department of legal theory and sociology of law with her own project entitled “Breaches of the Rule of Law”. She holds a PhD in Law (cum laude) from Pompeu Fabra University (Spain) and a Master’s degree in Global Rule of Law and Constitutional Democracy from the University of Genoa (Italy). She has also held visiting positions at the Institute of Criminology at the Faculty of Law in Ljubljana (Slovenia), the University of Genoa (Italy), the University of Warwick (UK), the University Roma Tre (Italy) and most recently at the University College London (UK) in the framework of the HRNUDGE ERC project lead by Prof. Veronika Fikfak. Currently, M. Victoria Kristan is a member of the board of the legal curriculum of the PhD program in Security, Risk and Vulnerability at the University of Genoa, and is one of the founding members of “En Teoría hay Mujeres (en teoría)”, which promotes the participation of women in legal theory. She is also co-editor of the Revista Latinoamericana de Filosofía Política. She has also worked as an evaluator for NYU GovLab, the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and the World Justice Project. Her research is focuses in proposing a new legal framework for dealing with breaches of the rule of law. The framework consists of three pillars: (1) a new typology of breaches based on their seriousness; (2) a robust set of guidelines for assessing whether a breach of a particular type has occurred; and (3) a list of possible remedies for each type of breach with an indication of their expected efficiency. She published various articles about legal and political philosophy.
