Damjan Matija

Matija Damjan is an Associate Professor of Civil and Commercial Law and the Secretary General of the Institute for Comparative Law at the Faculty of Law in Ljubljana. After a two-year judicial traineeship at the Ljubljana Higher Court, he passed the State Examination in Law in 2005. In 2007, he obtained his PhD at the Faculty of Law of the University of Ljubljana and has been active in scientific research in the field of law since then. Since 2016, he has been the Secretary of the Editorial Board of the scientific journal Legal Yearbook. The focus of his research and teaching is in the fields of intellectual property law, civil law and information technology law. He has authored and co-authored more than thirty scientific articles and monographs in these fields. He is currently involved in research on the legal challenges of the information society and on the relationship between artificial intelligence and human rights. From 2020 to 2022, he was a member of the Data Governance Working Group of the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI).
