The Faculty of Law at the University of Ljubljana has successfully participated in the 2023 Jean Monnet Actions in the Field of Higher Education Teaching and Research (ERASMUS-JMO-2023-HEI-TCH-RSCH). The Faculty's three-year Erasmus+ Jean Monnet Module project, titled "Collective Actions in the EU (CollActEU)", is led by Associate Professor Dr. Ana Vlahek and commenced in October 2023.

This innovative project introduces a range of educational and expert activities designed to benefit not only the students of the University of Ljubljana but also the wider public. As part of the initiative, a new elective course, Collective Actions in the EU (Sl. Kolektivne tožbe v EU), is now available to third- and fourth-year Bachelor’s students at the Faculty of Law, as well as students from other faculties with an interest in this dynamic field. With strong student interest, the course (4 ECTS) was be fully delivered in the summer semester of the 2023/24 academic year. The curriculum, approved in 2023, combines theoretical knowledge with practical insights, ensuring a comprehensive learning experience.

The course is led by a distinguished team of educators and experts, including the coordinator (Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ana Vlahek), two faculty professors (Prof. Dr. Aleš Galič and Assist. Prof. Dr. Neža Pogorelčnik Vogrinc), and two external specialists. Guest speakers will also enrich the program. Designed to foster deep engagement, the course blends the following activities:

  • Interactive Lectures: Students explore the intricacies of collective redress mechanisms in the EU and its member states, gaining theoretical knowledge and addressing contemporary challenges.

  • Seminars and Case Studies: Participants dive into detailed case law analysis, presenting their findings under mentor guidance.

  • Public Roundtable Discussions: At the close of each semester, students participate in debates with esteemed experts and stakeholders, discussing pressing issues in collective redress within Slovenia and the EU.

  • Digital Resources: A newly developed online platform provides access to lecture materials, seminar resources, case analysis tasks, forums, and other essential content.

  • Experiential Learning: Students have the opportunity to attend court hearings related to collective actions, enriching their practical understanding of legal processes.

  • Knowledge Assessments: Socrative quizzes help students review and reinforce their grasp of course material.

The culmination of each semester features a public roundtable discussion, inviting experts, practitioners, and interested parties to address current trends and challenges in collective redress. This event fosters a meaningful exchange of ideas, ensuring the course remains both relevant and impactful.

By connecting academic rigour with real-world applications, the CollActEU project represents a pioneering effort to deepen understanding and engagement with collective redress mechanisms, advancing legal education and contributing to broader European legal scholarship.
