The Faculty of Law of the University of Ljubljana has been successful in the call for proposals Jean Monnet Actions in the Field of Higher Education Teaching and Research for 2023 (ERASMUS-JMO-2023-HEI-TCH-RSCH) with a three-year Erasmus+ Jean Monnet Module project entitled Collective Actions in the EU (CollActEU), led by Associate Professor Dr. Ana Vlahek.
The project, which began in October 2023, will include various educational and professional activities aimed primarily at students of the University of Ljubljana, as well as the general public.
Already in the 2023/24 academic year, a new elective course on collective actions in the EU will be available to third- and fourth-year students of the Faculty of Law (and for students of other members of the University of Ljubljana who are interested in the topic) will be offered a new elective course Class Actions in the EU, which will be taught in full (4 ECTS) in the summer semester due to a sufficient number of enrolments. The content of the lectures and the method of work and assessment are specified in the curriculum, which was adopted by the Faculty of Law in 2023 and accredited by the University of Ljubljana. In addition to the course coordinator (Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ana Vlahek) and two other professors from the faculty (Prof. Dr. Aleš Galič and Doc. Dr. Neža Pogorelčnik Vogrinc), the lectures and seminars will also be conducted by two external experts, and other experts in the field will join us as guests.
The course is designed as a combination of the following activities:
- Interactive lectures, where students will learn about the content and issues of collective protection mechanisms in the EU and member states, and gain a theoretical understanding of issues in this field.
- Seminars, in which in-depth case studies from current case law will be conducted, will be analyzed and presented by students as part of a seminar assignment under the instructor's supervision.
- A public round table at the end of the academic semester, where students equipped with new knowledge will be able to interact with renowned experts and other interested members of the public.
- Distribution of teaching materials to be used in lectures and available in the newly designed online classroom for the course, where all course information, lecture and seminar materials, a forum for exchanging views, assignments for submitting case analyses, etc., will be available.
- Participation in court hearings in class action lawsuits, if these take place during the semester.
- Completing and analyzing Socrative quizzes for ongoing knowledge reinforcement.
At the end of each semester, the faculty will organize a public round table with renowned experts and other interested members of the public to discuss current topics in collective protection in Slovenia and other EU member states.
