Project Description
The project addresses smart homes for people who are dependent on care as a new way to provide long-term care. The purpose of a smart home is to promote the autonomy of these individuals and facilitate their daily activities, as they are unable to meet all or some of their basic needs on their own. Students from various faculties contributed their knowledge in relevant fields and, together, developed a concept, thereby creating the possibility for the subsequent implementation of the project in practice. Within this framework, the project aimed to describe the comprehensive legal basis for the operation of a bright house, as this is a demanding legal area that raises many questions regarding the protection of personal data and the guarantee of the (constitutional) right to social security. The research provides clear insight into the needs of individuals who depend on the care of others. Based on these results, they tried to create as detailed a vision of a smart home as possible and also to evaluate it financially. The idea of a smart home is one alternative form of accommodation for disabled and elderly people, and it is also encouraged by the EU.
A comprehensive analysis will serve as a basis for the further development of this idea in the future, as it contains a description of the legal basis for the development of a smart home, a description of the needs of these individuals, and a description of the possibilities that a smart home can offer to address these needs. The project results (brochure) will also be presented to the interested public at a round table in autumn 2019.
