Project Description

In May 2018, Regulation (EU) 2016/679 on the protection of individuals about the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data (General Data Protection Regulation, hereinafter referred to as the GDPR) will enter into force across the European Union. The Regulation will impose numerous new obligations on companies that process personal data, with heavy penalties for non-compliance. In recent years, smart home technology has advanced, allowing users to control various functions via a computer. The functions can be controlled via a computer installed in the home, while more advanced systems are controlled via the cloud. With this type of control, specific data about each home is stored or collected in the cloud, and instructions for executing commands are sent from the cloud to the smart home.

Law, computer science, and informatics students will collaborate with Voxior d.o.o., a company that offers IT solutions for smart homes. They will explore the technical and legal aspects of implementing the GDPR in the company's product development and seek the best solutions for the company that are legal, feasible, and cost-effective for both the company and consumers.
