Grega Strban, PhD, is Full Professor of Social Security Law, Head of Labour and Social Law Department and former Dean at the Faculty of Law University of Ljubljana. He is also a Senior Research Associate at the Department of Public Law, University of Johannesburg. He has completed postgraduate specialization course of the European Union (EU) law at the University of Cambridge (with distinction), master course on European social security at the University of Leuven (magna cum laude) and defended his doctoral thesis at the University of Ljubljana. He has conducted research at Max-Planck Institute for Social Law and Social Policy in Munich, at first as Stipendiat of the Institute, later as a Humboldt Fellow, and at present he is an external expert of the Institute. He is Member of Academia Europaea (AE, London), President of the Slovenian Association of Labour Law and Social Security, Vice-President of the International Society for Labour and Social Security Law (ISLSSL, Geneva), Vice-President of the European Institute of Social Security (EISS, Leuven), member of the European Law Institute (ELI, Vienna) and member of the African Labour Law Society (ALLS). He is also member of the European Committee of Social Rights at the Council of Europe, President of the Permanent Arbitration Court for collective labour disputes at Triglav insurance company and member of the Slovenian Strategic Council for Health at the Prime Minister’s office. Prof Strban is active in several national and international projects, e.g., as head of the research program group at the Faculty of Law University of Ljubljana and coordinator of the EU project MoveS (Free Movement of Workers and Social Security Coordination). He has authored numerous publications and is member of editorial boards of several journals. He has passed the State exam for lawyers, was awarded as Best Young Lawyer in Slovenia (2001), received the Roger Dillemans Award for Excellence in Social Security, KU Leuven (2004) and was recognised as the most echoed researcher of the Faculty of Law University of Ljubljana (2020, 2021, 2023).
