Kramberger Skerl Jerca

Jerca Kramberger Škerl is a full professor of civil and commercial law. She graduated in law from the Faculty of Law of the University of Ljubljana (topic: Access to Court in Recent Case-Law of the European Court of Human Rights) and obtained her master's degree from the Faculty of Law and Social Sciences of the University of Poitiers (France) (topic: International Jurisdiction under Regulation No. 44/2001 – Brussels I), and obtained her doctorate with a joint doctorate at both universities (topic: International Public Policy in the Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Judgments, Comparative Study: Slovenia, France, European Union). During her undergraduate studies, she spent a year as a visiting student at the Faculty of Law of Eberhard-Karls University in Tübingen (Germany). In Slovenia, she passed the bar exam and was appointed as a court interpreter for the French language. She is fluent in English, French, German, Serbian, and Croatian.

She teaches Private International Law, Civil Procedure, and French Legal Language at the Faculty of Law of the University of Ljubljana. She regularly introduces innovations into her teaching, such as the comparative law collaboration with the Faculty of Law and Social Sciences in Poitiers in teaching the French Legal Language. As a former competitor, she was a long-time mentor to student teams at the René Cassin European Human Rights Law Competition, and since 2020, she has been the head of Slovenian researchers in an international consortium of institutions that organizes the annual PAX Moot Court international student competition in international private law and annual training in this field of law for practicing lawyers. She is a mentor to numerous master's and doctoral students. In 2024, she was selected as one of ten "exceptional mentors" at the University of Ljubljana and received funding for a young researcher. In 2023, she completed training at the Council of Europe to become a national tutor for the HELP program – Human Rights Education for Legal Professionals, and then conducted a HELP course in Slovenia for judges on the interaction between the European Convention on Human Rights and the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights. Since 2026, she has been one of seven mentors in the Lindemann Fellowship, an international program promoting excellent early-career researchers in the field of international private law (About the Lindemann Fellowship : Fakultät für Rechtswissenschaft : Universität Hamburg). She regularly conducts training courses for court interpreters. Every year, she co-organises the Summer School of French and European Law at the Faculty of Law in cooperation with the Faculty of Law and Social Sciences in Poitiers.

Between 2018 and 2020, she was Vice Dean for Academic Affairs at the Faculty of Law, University of Ljubljana, and as a member of the management team, she co-organized adjustments to the study process due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Between 2020 and 2022, she was Vice-Dean for Research and Economic Activities. Since 2024, she has been the Faculty Coordinator for International Cooperation. Prior to that, she was a member of numerous faculty committees and expert groups.

She is a member of the commission for court interpreter examinations for the French language at the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Slovenia. Since 2021, she has been a member of the Council for Alternative Dispute Resolution at the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Slovenia.

 

Her research focuses primarily on various aspects of preventing and resolving cross-border civil (including family and inheritance) and commercial disputes. She regularly participates in domestic and international scientific meetings, is a member of the editorial boards of scientific journals, and publishes scientific and professional articles. Since 2025, she has been the head of the organizing committee of the annual international professional and scientific Private International Law Conference, which brings together various stakeholders in the field of international private law.

She is a member of several domestic and international professional associations, including:

As a researcher, she has participated in numerous national and international research projects. She was the leader of a team of researchers from the Faculty of Law of the University of Ljubljana in the following research projects co-financed by the European Commission:
