Kambic Marko

Marko Kambič, Ph.D., is a full professor of Roman Law and Legal History at the University of Ljubljana Faculty of Law. After graduating from the Ljubljana Faculty of Law, he briefly enhanced his knowledge in England and the Netherlands and later conducted his research at the Institute of Roman Law and Antique Legal History at the Vienna University Faculty of Law. He has extensively studied Roman tort, property, personal, inheritance, and criminal law, the reception of Roman law in medieval and early modern Europe, as well as its influence on contemporary law. He also delved into recent constitutional history, the history of self-governance, and the field of legal terminology. He pays particular attention to the history of criminal law, focusing on the reception of Roman criminal procedure, the doctrine of self-defence, and the study of criminal law sources of the modern times, with an emphasis on the criminal order for Ljubljana (1514). His research does not only stay within the confines of legal history but also extends into current law, aiming to contribute to solving contemporary legal issues. He is active in a research program "Incorporation of the EU Legal Terminology into the Slovenian Legal System", funded by the Slovenian Public Agency for Research and Innovation Activities whose main goal is the publication of an English-Slovenian dictionary of European legal terms. He has also taught for seventeen years at the University of Maribor Faculty of Law, and recently participated in the postgraduate course at the University of Sarajevo Faculty of Law. Inter alia, he is a founding member and third-term president of the Slovenian Society of Eighteenth-Century Studies, a second-term member of the Slovenian State Election Commission, second-term vice chairman of the Statutory Committee of the University of Ljubljana, the chairman of the editorial board of the journal "Lex localis – Journal of Local Self-Government" and a recipient of the Valvasor Award. Since the introduction of quality measurement of teaching at the Ljubljana Faculty of Law, he has been ranked in the top 10% of the evaluative scale.
